Clearly, these are the right grapes in the right spot. Freshness is precisely what they display, amazing in wines so powerful.

Thanks for the kind words. Writing about wine is challenging. For the most part, it's hard to make it interesting. I can still do better, I think, but thanks for the support. And I'm sure our paths will cross again soon.

My Gorgeous Samantha,
Oh that Pete, such a sweet talker. Got that from his Dad. Though it doesn't make my day better when I get home and have to write a new HoseMaster post. That's always tough.

Nice to have a bit of a fan club, mostly silent, but still there.

I love you, too.Ron Washam, HMWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11238869156614617705noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6745003136564123305.post-4638963845307228202014-05-14T17:01:20.498-07:002014-05-14T17:01:20.498-07:00Ron My Love,

We were catching up a little and he said how nice it was to see me from time to time when he reads your blog, or the comment section I should say. I thought that was cool but that couldn't hold a candle to what he told me after that, "It sort of makes my day better when I know I have a new HoseMaster post to read when I get home"....thought that one deserved sharing. I love you, guess lots of us do! In our time at Marietta Cellars, my brother and I (with our dad leading the way) have explored much of Sonoma and Mendocino county but we've never found any other sites where the fruit holds so much acid yet ripens so consistently. The result as you tasted is rich, intense wines with acidity, structure, and freshness. AKA big, powerful wines that aren't jammy bombs. -not a combination you find every day.
Considering you were talking about our wines, I'm obviously biased but that being said your writing is fantastic. I wish I could describe my own wines as well as you did!

All the best and I look forward to crossing paths sooner than later.

Jake BilbroJake Bilbrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05880858825461657224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6745003136564123305.post-77646479074722115522014-05-13T11:02:34.642-07:002014-05-13T11:02:34.642-07:00My Gorgeous Samantha,

I have enormous respect for your palate, and no longer feel I can talk you into liking Zin, and don't feel any need to. Zin speaks to me, and not to you. That's precisely the joy of wine--knowing enough to understand why or why not a wine thrills you. And no matter what, you'll never convince me Rose of Pinot Noir is worth a crap either. Unless it has bubbles, of course.

I adore these pieces because they force me to articulate my feelings for wine, my life in wine, and my abiding passion for wine. Is there any other reason to have a blog? I like to make people laugh, I guess, but, more than that, I like to force myself to try and find the words to express my gratitude for wine and all it has done to make my life better.

I love you, too, Samantha, and love that you dislike one of my favorite varieties. May we butt heads over it forever.

Ron Washam, HMWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11238869156614617705noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6745003136564123305.post-48831457681977986952014-05-13T10:49:07.052-07:002014-05-13T10:49:07.052-07:00Ron My Love,

For the nearly cartoonish with extraction and sweetness I can't be bothered to even think of them as wine and for the perfectly balanced, charming and elegant styles, well I can appreciate them for all of that and watch adoringly as the people I love (Thinking of a particular funny man right now) get seduced by them...and I agree 1000% about finding it refreshing that there is no old world variety to compare it to, hate that crap. Over the years I've had plenty of people try and make me understand Zinfandel and much like chocolate, I get it, I just don't care for it, and yet here I am reading your notes wishing I were tasting these along with you. You are truly amazing sir. I adore these pieces Ron. I love you. I just judged a bunch at a competition last week, and our panel agreed that there were some brilliant wines. Effusive fruit, gorgeous aromatics, and the best had restraint and balance. What's not to like? The Limerick Lane Zins are absolute beauties.

Barb,
Well, thank you. That is as kind a note as I've received in a long time. I'll tuck that away in a folder. They certainly sound decadent here.

This may be my fave: "I’ve got plenty of mutton, and mutton’s plenty for me."
