Riedel's Law

Ever wonder what it takes to host a spectacularly successful wine tasting in your home? Me neither. But here it is the first Monday of June, and I'm over at Tim Atkin's blog with some helpful pointers. I thought, for a change, I'd write an entire piece without making fun of "natural wine." But I like your idea, but instead of tasting them blind, you would taste them anosmic. (Man, I love that word).

I made a terrible mistake and drank Syrah out of a Sauvignon Blanc glass. This would have been catastrophic, but I was having goat cheese, and so the wine glass was perfect. It's always best to select the glass to go with your food, then it doesn't matter what wine you put in it, it's a match!

The wine consuming public (aka the
"masses") buys into every silly bit of wine info they hear. I tell my students (early on), buy inexpensive glasses at Cost Plus or Pottery Barn, because the more expensive the glass the faster you will break it and you HONESTLY don't need a different glass for every variety.
